When others are still struggling to understand human-to-human interaction, my new housemate, Tobias from Kenya, already stepped into the world of elephant-human interaction. This is the conversation we have in our house's kitchen last Friday.
CL : Do you speak the elephant language?
Tobias : No, I don't.
CL : Then how you talk to elephants?
Tobias : I don't talk to elephants.
Haha! Tobias observes and studies elephants' behaviour to understand their thoughts in order to predict their interaction with humans.
CL : Why we need to understand the interaction of elephants and humans?
Tobias : Because if a human killed an elephant, that human would be imprisoned. However, if an elephant hurt a human, we couldn't put the elephant into the jail.
Yes, this is an absolutely good reason to carry out this study. Haha!

My back-dated matriculation dinner with my housemates on Oct9. From left: Kam, Dong, Jack, Tobias and CL. Jack and Tobias are coursemates in Mphil of Environment, Society and Development. But Jack doesn't study elephant as he is from the UK, which has no elephant!

Formal Hall with housemates and Nisak, a visiting student from UPM, Malaysia on Oct21. The guy behind Nisak is not my housemate. He stays in one of Downing accomodation in Lenfield. Sorry that I forgot his name. But he is and extremely friendly guy from the US.

Housemates and Nisak in Downing MCR (Middle Common Room for graduates) after Formal Hall. Where was CL? I was savoring the free wine in the bar with the guy from the US and his housemates, while complaining about facilities in Downing accomodations i.e. no common room in every house, only 1 washing machine and 1 dryer in my house of 13 students etc.
