Grantchester

An afternoon escape from the lab, 7 PhD students and 1 postdoc in 2 boats. After about an hour of punt from University Center to Grantchester (it should take only 20min, these few escapees were just a bit too playful in the river), we stopped at a spot, with some dog shits though, which is not too far from Grantchester and then set up the fire for barbeque. This trip is specially arranged for Emrah. He will be leaving Cambridge and going back to Turkey as a professor in another 3 weeks time and he had never been to Grantchester. This is my 2nd trip to Granchester; Chwee Chin and I walked to Grantchester during her visit to Cambridge this May.

Emrah is my buddy's postdoc and best mate. Surprisingly to you, he is the only postdoc I really respect in Cambridge, we never worked together for the same project though. Emrah and me used to meet with each other in the cleanroom during weekend; Emrah is an ironman who basically works 7 days per week and my routine is working at others' lab during weekdays and come back to my own lab during weekend. He always complaint when I repeated the same song from youtube over and over again for the whole afternoon in the lab.

As I thought I has become more emotionally independent in Cambridge, but this evening after I left the guys, I suddenly realise that I am not what I thought, and I am going to miss Emrah and the escape moment with the gang.

Member of boat #1 at the beginning of the punt

Main punter of boat#1 & boat#2, Hang (left) and Tim (right), respectively under a bridge.

Mini scale bbq at a spot with some dog shits.

In the return trip, Boat #1 member had changed a bit and Yang Yang had become the main punter for them.
